Ingredients of Sorshe Bata Illish
- 2 pieces iilish fish
- 1 large potato
- salt as required
- 4 tablespoon mustard oil
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 cup mustard seeds
- 2 green chilli
- 1/4 teaspoon onion seeds
How to make Sorshe Bata Illish

Step 1 Marinate the fish and prepare a mustard paste
To start making this mouth watering dish, first marinate the fish (hilsa) using salt and turmeric. Marinate well for around 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile in add green chillies and mustard seeds in a mixer- grinder and grind to get a paste. If required add water to make paste.
Step 2 Fry the fish and potatoes
Now heat oil in a pan. In this oil add the fish and fry on both sides for 5 minutes. Drain the excess oil and keep aside. In the same oil fry the potato slices, drain the excess oil and keep aside.
Step 3 Prepare gravy and add fish
In the left over oil add onion seed and prepared mustard paste and saute for a minute or two. Next, add water and bring it to boil. Once the water boils, add turmeric powder and salt. To this add the potato slices and cook well. Finally add the fried dish. Cover the dish and let the ingredients cook.
Step 4 Serve hot
