Vegan Turon Recipe
Turon is a popular snack made with bananas that belong to the Philippines. Originally, Turons were made by wrapping banana pieces in a spring roll wrapper and deep-fried to make them crispy. It is either dusted with sugar or coated in a caramel glaze prepared with sugar. Apart from bananas, jackfruit, sweet potato, mango, cheddar cheese, and coconut fillings are also stuffed in Turons. With its lip-smacking flavors, Turon is a popular street food amongst Filipinos. In this recipe, we offer you a Vegan version of Turons which you can prepare with some easily available ingredients. All you need for this recipe is wheat flour, banana, jaggery, cinnamon powder, and coconut oil. You can serve them as a snack or for breakfast and everyone will love this unique recipe for sure. Ingredients of Vegan Turon
- 1 cup wheat flour
- 4 banana
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoon coconut oil
- 4 tablespoon powdered jaggery
- salt as required
How to make Vegan Turon
Step 1 Knead a dough
Sieve wheat, cornflour, and salt 2-3 times. Knead a semi-stiff dough, coat with 1/2 teaspoon oil, cover, and leave for 5 minutes.
Step 2 Make thin sheets
Heat a tawa, pinch a very small piece of dough, and roll it into a very thin roti.
Step 3 Homemade wrap
Roast both sides of the roti for a few seconds in the hot tawa, it should not change color, so remove it immediately. Homemade wrap is ready. Repeat and make all wraps and keep them on a plate.
Step 4 Seasoning
In a bowl mix cinnamon and jaggery. Add a pinch of salt as well.
Step 5 Prepare a slurry
In another bowl, prepare a slurry by mixing 1 tablespoon flour and 3 tablespoons of water.
Step 6 Make rolls
Slit the banana from the middle. Place one roti on a board, and place one side of the slit banana in the middle. Sprinkle some jaggery cinnamon powder to coat the banana a bit. Apply slurry around the edges of the wrap. Fold and tuck the wrap in a way to make a roll or a cigar roll
Step 7 Shallow fry
Heat tawa with some coconut oil. Add the rolls and roast on both sides. Add the leftover jaggery cinnamon powder and toss them gently to coat them a bit. Within seconds the jaggery will melt and give the Turons a texture similar to that of caramel. Roast all of them and keep them in a dish.
Step 8 Ready to be served
Your Vegan Turons are now ready to be served.
